Please accept my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all your monetary and moral help.
This has been a very good, positive, and optimistic experience. 105 people have owned this campaign in total and you are one of them. Rs. 4.45 lakhs (approx) was spent towards the campaign. I have seen people funding the candidates hoping for something in return when they win. But, probably for the first time in recent times we have seen this kind of unselfish gesture by so many unknown, patriotic, honest people supporting the fight taken up by an another unknown person.
This combined fight of ours for values and ethics in Karnataka's politics still continues even after the elections in Bangalore is over. After going through the complete election process, I am completely convinced that within Rs. 10 lakhs (the legal limit) anyone can conduct a very decent campaign for an assembly seat, as long he is not bribing voters and not practicing any unethical and immoral election practices.
The way the elections are conducted in India have definitely improved over the years and there is no disagreement on that. But it still falls short of what we should aim for. The election expenditure ceiling is a farce. It is not enforced at all. People in large are still intimidated by money power. The "vote banks" are still being bought and bribed. The expense returns that the candidates submit to EC is a big, cruel joke made upon honest candidates. The fact that I was the only candidate who exceeded Rs. 4 lakhs (out of 14 candidates) clearly shows how inefficient and dishonest our system is. So, I have decided to continue this fight till we achieve our goal of making the system honest and accountable. Please see the letter that I have sent to CEC of India and the CEO of Karnataka, in this regard.
I would like to take this opportunity to request you to kindly write a letter to the CEO (ceo_karnataka@eci.gov.in) and the CEC of India (cec@eci.gov.in), urging them to enforce the law on expenditure ceiling and also to write to some reputed News Papers demanding fair and just elections.
